Mr. Charles William Melvin, 86, of Tovey, IL passed away at 4:17 a.m. Friday, November 4, 2016 at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.
He was born in Marianna, FL., the son of James Thurman and Thelma Mae (Mashburn) Melvin. Charles married Doris Lowis on September 28, 1968 at West Palm Beach, FL.
Mr. Melvin served as a paratrooper in the 187th Airborne Division of the U.S. Army seeing combat during the Korean Conflict receiving 4 bronze battle stars. He had a vast career first working as an insurance salesman, then an owner operator OTR truck driver, and later working over 20 years for Truck Centers Inc. He was a member of the Jesus Christ Church of Latter Day Saints in Springfield, IL., and the Post 73 American Legion in Taylorville. He liked boating, fishing, traveling and loved spending time with his family.
Surviving along with his wife Doris of Tovey are; 4 sons Keith Melvin of Woodward, OK., Randy Melvin and companion Beth Adkins of Kincaid, IL., Charles (wife Alicia) Melvin II of Kincaid, IL Charles (Heather) Melvin III of Kincaid, IL a daughter Charlene Jennifer Richardson of Joplin, MO., 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers James Earl and Willard H. Melvin, an infant son, grandsons Matthew Melvin and Bo Jordan, and a great-granddaughter Hannah Melvin.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid, IL. Burial with full military honors will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL. Visitation for Mr. Melvin will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, November 7, at Masterson Funeral Home.
