Mrs. Ralphena J. Cameron, 98, formerly of Kincaid, IL passed away on January 1, 2015 in Maryland Heights, MO. She was born January 12, 1916 in Johnston City, IL. Ralphena married Thomas K. Cameron on December 31, 1949 and she resided in the Kincaid area for over 62 years.
Mrs. Cameron was a former member of the Midland United Methodist Church and the Kincaid Baptist Church, both in Kincaid. She was presently a member of Sun Rise United Methodist Church of O' Fallon, MO. Ralphena was a homemaker but also worked outside the home at the dress factory, as a bookkeeper for Flentje Turkey Farm, a manager of Yearly and Roggero Drug Stores and custodian at South Fork Community High School, the U.S. Post office and Midland Community Bank. She retired in 1988.
She was a Den Mother, active in Grade and High School organizations, Editor of the Midland News, and Secretary of the Kincaid Senior Citizens where she also taught an exercise class. Mrs. Cameron was a life long Cub's fan. She and her husband enjoyed traveling, including a six-week trip to South Africa to visit relatives.
Ralphena was a product of the Great Depression, which taught her the true virtues of life: place God first, make family everything, keep lifetime friends, learn new skills, and give back to the community.
She will be remembered as a wonderful mother, loving and attentive grandmother, a patriot, and a good friend to all. Ralphena will be dearly missed, and also remembered with a smile by those who had the good fortune to know her.
Mrs. Cameron was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Thomas K. Cameron, former husband Clayton Fabry, her mother Beatrice Hughes, her father Albert Lindsay, Sr, her sister, Eileen Hughes Schmelzer, her brother, Albert Lindsay, Jr., and her precious dog Abu.
Survivors include Eileen Fabry (Bill) Wadding of Jacksonville, FL, Judy Fabry (Ray) Ungemach of Lake St. Louis, MO, Tom (Toni) Fabry of Frisco, TX, and Keith (Linda) Cameron of Pawnee, IL, eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Masterson Funeral Home. Pastor Linda Vonck of the Midland United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Taylorville, IL. Visitation for Mrs. Cameron will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 4 to 7:00 p.m. at Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid.
