Mr. Orlando "Lompo" Menossi, 91, of rural Morrisonville, IL passed away at 5:00 pm Wednesday, June 5, 2013 in Taylorville Care Center.
He was born in Tovey, IL February 22, 1922 the son of Victor and Elsia (Bonetti) Menossi. Orlando married Caroline M. Sartore February 22, 1943 in Florence, South Carolina.
Mr. Menossi worked for 40 years in area coal mines; first at Mine #8 in Tovey, then Freeman United Mine and finishing 30 years at Mine #10 near Pawnee where he chaired the Mine Safety Committee for 14 years, retiring in 1986. He liked woodworking and fishing. Orlando was a member of U.M.W.A. local #9819 and the American Legion in Kincaid. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in W.W.II
Surviving are 3 sons Victor (Cleta) Menossi and David (Cheryl) Menossi all of Taylorville, IL and James Menossi of Palmer, IL a sister Gloria Foster of Tovey, IL 6 grandchildren Ryan (Misty) Menossi and Adam (Natalie) Menossi of Edwardsville, IL Chris Menossi of Tovey, IL Chad Menossi of Pawnee, IL Isaac Menossi and Christina Menossi both of Palmer, IL along with 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Lompo was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Caroline Menossi on October 31, 2012, and 2 sisters Prissilla Roberts and Adeline Cook.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 am Monday, June 10, 2013 at Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid. Fr. Mariadas Chatla officiated. Burial followed with military rites in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, IL. Visitation was held from 9 to 11 am Monday at Masterson Funeral Home.
