Mr. Leon V. Noreuil, age 89, of Taylorville, formerly of Kincaid and Tovey, died at 11:15 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2014 in Taylorville Care Center at Taylorville.

Leon was born December 28, 1924, in Tovey, the son of Oscar L. and Celine Mathieu Noreuil. He married Frances J. Rogers On July 25, 1943 in St. Charles, MO. She preceded him in death on July 25, 1996. He was a coal miner for 40 years, retiring from Peabody Mine # 10 at Pawnee in 1987. Leon was Chief of Police for 4 years, Village Trustee 8 years, Mayor for 6 years, volunteer fireman for 20 years, worked for volunteer ambulance service 30 years, all in Kincaid, and served as South Fork Township Trustee for 14 years. He was a member, and former Extraordinary Minister, at St. Rita Catholic Church in Kincaid, member of local # 9819 United Mine Workers Of America, life member of K of C Council # 4446 in Kincaid and social member of American Legion Post # 905 in Kincaid. He very much enjoyed playing pinochle and spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving are his daughter, Julia Graham of Kincaid; son, Clarence "Hank" Noreuil of Decatur; 4 grandchildren; Dwighla (husband Dan) Yard of Hewitville, Chad Noreuil of Scottsdale, AZ, Larry (wife Cindy) Graham of Athens, IL and Julie Schmidt of Kincaid; 6 great grandchildren; brothers, Raymond (Lorene) Noreuil of Taylorville, Thomas (Darlene) Noreuil of Springfield, and Robert (Judith) Noreuil of Taylorville; sister Adele (Bruce) Barger of Kincaid; daughter-in-law, Marie Ann Lambert of Taylorville; his devoted friend Ina Claire Pirmann of Taylorville and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; sister, Marian Hodge; and brothers, Oscar, Victor and John Noreuil.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Rita Catholic Church in Kincaid at 10:00 a.m. Saturday August 16, 2014. Fr. Dan Willenborg officiated, with Fr. Alan Hunter Concelebrating and burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday August 15, 2014 at Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid. A prayer service was held at 4:45 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
