Joseph Szabo, 80, of Taylorville, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2013.

He was born on September 18, 1932, in Tovey, IL, the son of Louis and Elizabeth (Molnar) Szabo.

He graduated from Kincaid High School and thereafter enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served from 1950 to 1956. He then attended Eastern Illinois University from which he graduated in 1960. He taught industrial arts at Pana High School for his entire career. He was a lifetime member of the Kincaid Knights of Columbus. He was also an avid hunter, fisherman, outdoorsman and woodworker.

He married Patricia Ann Petty on August 24, 1963, and she survives him. Also surviving are a son Mark of Taylorville a daughter Diane (Dan) Muhs and grandson Joey Muhs of Olney, a brother Alex Szabo of Tovey, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and George Donini, brother and sister-in-law Louis and Abigail Szabo and brother Nicholas Szabo.

A family funeral mass in honor of Joseph and his brother Nicholas was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Taylorville. Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid was in charge of arrangements.
