Obituary
Mr. John Allen Holmes, 78, of Kincaid, IL passed from this life at 8:12 P.M. Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Du Quoin, IL on August 21, 1944 the son of John Ival and Alice (Glazebrook) Holmes.
John married Hazel C. Bershers on March 21 1963 in ARK., and again on March 21, 1991 in Springfield, IL. She preceded him in death August 10, 2014.
Mr. Holmes was a member of the Kincaid Baptist Church. He worked hard to provide for his family for over 50 years at factories including: Weaver Manufacturing, Circle Steel, New Products and Caterpillar through the mid 80’s. He then went to work as a simi-truck driver for companies including North American Van Lines, Lehr Trucking and Crate & Pallet until illness forced his retirement in 2019.
Surviving are: a daughter Kathryne “Kay” Stevens of Kincaid, IL., a son David Mayberry and his companion Laura Greene of Springfield, IL., along with several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son John Jr., wife Hazel, grandson Charles Allen Stevens and a son-in-law Martin Stevens.
Visitation for Mr. Stevens will be held from 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid, IL. Funeral services will be held there at 11:00 A.M. Thursday the 13th with Rev. Louis Kunz officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery, rural Edinburg, IL. Memorials are suggested to Kincaid Baptist Church – P.O. Box 526 – Kincaid, IL 62540
