Mr. John F. Hayter, 64, of Tovey, IL, formerly of Broughton and the McLeansboro, IL area, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 5:55 PM in Taylorville Memorial Hospital, Taylorville, IL.

He was born in McLeansboro, IL, March 16, 1947 the son of Roy and Pauline (Allen) Hayter. He married Virgie Magos in 1989 in Taylorville, IL.

Mr. Hayter was a retired Boilermaker and worked for the Village of Tovey. He loved old cars and NASCAR racing.

John is survived by his wife Virgie of Tovey, IL, son Darren (Robbie) Hayter of Lebanon, TN., step-daughter Debbie (Chris) McWhorter of Pawnee, IL, grandchildren Andrew Hayter of Marion, IL., Melissa McWhorter of Pawnee, IL., Kristen and Jonathon Magos of Indianapolis, IN., great-grandson Charles Hayter of Marion, IL, 2 sisters Joyce (Larry) Gunter of Elkhart, IN., Phyllis Mayberry of Broughton, IL., and a brother Phillip (Jan) Hayter of Yamaha, WA.

John was preceded in death by his father, mother and a stepson David Magos.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 26, in Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid, IL. Rev. Chad Foster officiated. Visitation was held there 2 hours prior to services. Graveside services were held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 27, in Hickory Hill Cemetery, Broughton, IL. Rev. Bill Gholson officiated.
