John William Allgood

Mr. John W. Allgood, 77, of Springfield, IL passed from this life at 2:15 a.m. Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehab.

He was born August 8, 1944, the son of Stewart Lee and Mattie Jane (Sain) Allgood.  John grew up in Virden and lived most of his adult life in Springfield.  Mr. Allgood honorably served in the U.S. Army. 

John married Norma Sexton on April 8, 1988 in Chatham and they celebrated 28 years together before she passed away on December 6, 2016. 

He retired from the State of Illinois.  John was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. in Springfield, IL.  Mr. Allgood and his wife Norma ran a DJ service for many years in the area.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening - both vegetables and flowers too, woodworking and was known as an extremely talented musician.

Surviving are: 2 sons Steven (wife Gina) Allgood of Carrollton, IL Jeffrey Allgood of the Virden/Girard, IL area, a step son Christopher Treadway of Rantoul, IL several grandchildren, 2 sisters Carolyn Ann (husband Ed) Thomas of Jeisyville, IL and Dora (husband Norman) Gardner of Auburn, IL along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Katherine Jane Eskew.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid.  Rev Chad Foster will officiate.  Burial with Military Honors will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery.  Visitation for Mr. John William Allgood will be held from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 28 (2 hours prior to services) at Masterson’s in Kincaid.
