James Mayer

Mr. James Mayer, 78, of Rochester, IL formerly of rural Mt. Auburn, IL passed from this life at 10:08 P.M. Sunday, August 24, 2025 at Taylorville Care Center.

He was born in Taylorville, IL on Saturday, June 28, 1947 the son of Phillip J. and Mary (Borgognoni) Mayer, Jr. 

James was raised in the Midland area where he graduated from South Fork High School.  He later graduated from Illinois College in Jacksonville, IL.  Mr. Mayer worked many years in Christian County government. 

Surviving are his companion Marcia Montgomery of Rochester, IL his children Shelly Montgomery of Rochester, IL Scott Montgomery of Mt. Auburn, IL a brother John P. (wife Stephanie) Mayer of Tovey, IL grandchildren Anna Norton of Rochester, IL Cole Montgomery of Springfield, IL Claire Montgomery of Taylorville, IL a great-grandchild Oakleigh Montgomery of Decatur, IL a niece Jonna (Michael) Sapetti and nephew John S. Mayer all of Tovey, IL along with great nieces and nephew Bella, Gemma and Ronan.

James was preceded in death by his parents.
