James H. Mathes, Jr

Mr. James H. Mathes, Jr., 55, of Springfield, IL, formerly of the Midland area, passed from this life at 4:04 P.M. Thursday, August 28, 2025, at home in Springfield.

He was born in Chicago on April 28, 1970, the son of James H. and Lois (Wolfe) Mathes, Sr.

James enjoyed fishing, motorcycles, video gaming, having a good time with his friends and living life.  He had formerly worked as a CNA.

Surviving are his son Dillon Mathes of Decatur, a granddaughter Ava, 2 sisters Shirley (husband Chris) Adams of Taylorville, IL Nora (husband Tim) Adams of Hannibal, MO a half sister Brenda Scallions of Tovey, IL along with a great many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life for Mr. James H. Mathes, Jr., will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 8th, 2025 at Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid, IL.  It will end with a short prayer service and sharing of memories.  He will the be buried in Zion Cemetery North of Pawnee, IL immediately following services.
