Hazel Clarice Holmes, age 67, of Kincaid, went to her heavenly home on Sunday August 10, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born October 20, 1946 in West Helena, AR to Carl Leo and Beatrice (McClain) Bershers. She married John Allen Holmes Sr. on March 21, 1963 in Arkansas and was remarried again on March 21, 1991 in Springfield, IL. She retired from the State of Illinois Department of Revenue in 2008, after 25 years of dedicated service.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, camping, fishing, Bingo, board games and cheering for the St. Louis Cardinal. She was a member of the Kincaid Baptist Church and American Legion Post 905 Auxiliary in Kincaid.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; son, step-father, Jarvis McNeely; son, John A. Holmes Jr.; father and mother-in-law, John Ival and Alice (Glazebrook) Holmes; son-in-law, Martin Stevens; brother, Billy Berahers and sister, Betty Knight.

She is survived by her husband of Kincaid; daughter, Kay Stevens of Kincaid; son, David Mayberry (companion, Jamie Barrett) of Springfield; grandson, Charles Allen Stevens of Kincaid; sisters, Peggy Madding of Cayce, KY, Carlene (Marvin) Duke of Willis, TX, Mary Watts of Iuka, MS; Linda (Richard) Hearn of Griffithsville, AR; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 14, 2014 in Masterson Funeral Home at Kincaid. Rev. Louis Kunz officiated. Visitation was held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday August 13 in the funeral home.
