Mr. Everett M. "Dusty" Smothers, age 85, of Kincaid, died at home Wednesday, November 23, 2011 surrounded by his loving family.
Dusty was born June 5, 1926, in Logan, IL, the son of William Miles and Bertha Moore Smothers. He married Helen P. Williams on June 21, 1945 in Taylorville. He retired from Peabody Coal Mine #10 in Pawnee in 1982. He was a member of the Church Of God in Kincaid. He was also a member of United Mine Workers Of America Local #9819.
Surviving is his wife Helen of Kincaid; sons, Ronald (Karen) Smothers of Kincaid, Everett Leroy Smothers of Decatur, Mike Smothers of Kincaid; daughter, Betty Fabian of Taylorville; 9 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Larry (Edith) Smothers of Taylorville, Joe Smothers of Carlyle, Jack (Stella) Smothers of Logan; sisters, Lillian Willett and Anna Mae Wilson, both of Logan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Daughter, Janice Kay Smothers; son, Robert "Bob" Smothers; and daughter-in-law, Gaylene S. Smothers.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 28, 2011 in Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid with Pastor Michael Mayberry officiating. Burial followed in GlenHaven Memorial Gardens at Taylorville. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, November 27, 2011 at the funeral home.
