Mr. Edward Henry Rees, 85, of Kincaid, IL passed from this life Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at home with family by his side.

He was born June 5, 1935 in Quincy, IL the son of Edward Francis and Agnes Leona (Daily) Rees.  Mr. Rees attended St. Francis Elementary School, Christian Brother’s High School and Quincy University College all in Quincy, IL.  After college he joined the Illinois National Guard and then served in the U. S. Army stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood and later Ft. Sam Houston.  He was a fourth-generation owner and operator of Rees Construction in Quincy until his retirement in 2001.  Mr. Rees was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church in Kincaid, IL, Quincy Historical Society, and the Quincy Society of Fine Arts.  Following retirement, he joined the Master Gardeners in Christian County, IL through the University of Illinois Extension.  He was on the Board of 6 counties representing the U of I of Christian County’s Extension of Master Gardeners.  Mr. Rees was an Avid Cardinals Baseball Fan.  Ed, as he was fondly known, lived in Quincy for many years before relocating to Kincaid, IL in 1990.  Mr. Rees eventually married the former Ruby Workman Krehel in 2005 in Kincaid, IL and she survives.

Surviving along with his wife of Kincaid, IL are 5 children: Mark Edward Rees of Chesterfield, IL Randall Anthony Rees, James Russell Rees, Dana Elaine Rees Rivies, and Leslie Suzanne Rees all of Quincy, IL 4 step children Harry Davis of SC Velma Copeland of Kincaid, IL Aaron Clayton Davis of Effingham, IL and Jimmie Davis of Taylorville, IL 2 brothers Ronald “Ronnie” Rees of MO and David Rees of Quincy, IL 1 sister Judy Thuer of NC along with 11 grandchildren, 19 step grandchildren, several great grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother William “Bill” Rees.

Cremation rites have been accorded and private family entombment will take place at a later date at Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum.  Masterson Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Kincaid is assisting his family with arrangements.
