Mrs. Alberta A. Broccardo, 88, of Kincaid, passed away at 5:00 am, Saturday May 5, 2012 in Thompson Healthcare Scottsdale, Scottsdale, AZ.

She was born in Tovey, IL October 7, 1923 the daughter of Albert "Fonse" and Myrtle (Irwin) Fleming.

Mrs. Broccardo was the salutatorian at South Fork High School Class of 1941. Her goal was to become a schoolteacher as she was an avid reader and loved English Literature. WWII led her on a different pathway. She proudly put in long hours as a bomb canner at the Ordinance Plant in Illiopolis, IL.

She married Raymond Broccardo at Kincaid United Methodist Church, February 14, 1944, raised 3 children and worked at Select Bottling Plant in Kincaid in the late 40's and early 50's. After her children graduated from high school she worked at Broccardo Insurance Agency for many years. Alberta was an Honorary Member of the D.A.R.

Alberta loved to cook always available for the PTA food drives, Labor Day at the park etc. Her love for teaching resulted in untold hours helping her children and their friends with their homework. She loved listening to the Cardinal Baseball games; she loved her plants, flowers and animals. She encouraged her children to love and be kind to God's creatures and respect Mother Nature. There were always cats in her life; many kittens dropped at her doorstep were never turned away. She also loved her little 1987 Mustang.

Surviving are her husband Raymond of Kincaid, IL. son Michael Broccardo of Littleton, CO., daughter Julia, step daughter in law Ann Broccardo of Kincaid, IL., 7 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her 2 cats Jerry and Tiny.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a stepson Carl Broccardo in 2005 and aunt Almeda Peppel Muoraro.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 16, 2012 in Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid, IL. Pastor Linda Vonck officiated. Visitation was held at Masterson's from 6 to 8:00 PM Tuesday May 15. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, IL. Memorials may be made in her memory to your favorite humane society organization.
