Abbilena A (Johnson) Sinnard

Mrs. Abbilena A. Sinnard, 88 of rural Taylorville, IL, passed from this life at 5:38 P.M. on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Lakeland Nursing and Rehab in Effingham, IL.

She was born in Taylorville, IL on October 19, 1937, the daughter of Bill and Alberta (Dexheimer) Johnson.

Abbilena married Samuel L. “Sam” Sinnard Sr., February 14, 1975, in St. Louis, MO.  Sam preceded her in death on September 21, 2003.

Mrs. Sinnard was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic in Taylorville.  She enjoyed caring for her animals, doing carpentry, gardening and spending time with her family. Above all else she was very dedicated to her Catholic faith and attended Mass every time she could until her health no longer allowed. 

Surviving are her children: Christopher (wife Deetta) Gatton of Buffalo, MO., Albert Gatton of Nokomis, IL., Kevin Gatton of Texas, Philip (wife Tracy) Gatton of New Bloomfield, MO., Aaron Gatton, Alberta Gatton, Gerard Gatton, Michelle Campbell, Joseph Gatton and April (husband John) Sinnard all of Taylorville, IL, 26 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Samuel L. Sinnard.

Funeral Mass for Mrs. Abbilena A. Sinnard will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kincaid. Fr. John Burnette will officiate.  Burial will follow at Fraley Cemetery in Taylorville.  Visitation for Mrs. Sinnard will be held one hour before her service at the church.  Masterson funeral home is assisting with arrangements.  Those unable to attend may leave condolences at mastersonfh.com.
