Anita M. (Culnan) Daly

Mrs. Anita M. Daly, 83, of Taylorville, IL died peacefully at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Springfield Memorial Hospital surrounded by family.

She was born June 27, 1940, in Lincoln, IL the daughter of Edward and Marie Culnan.

Anita married James E. Daly on March 4, 1967, in St. Louis, MO. 

She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1958.  She attended Sangamon State where she received a B.A. in education.  She later completed her Master's Degree in Education Administration at University of Illinois at Springfield.  She retired from Memorial School in Taylorville in 1994 after teaching there for 30+ years.

Mrs. Daly was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville and the Catholic Daughter’s of America.  Anita enjoyed: playing cards, Friday night boat rides, going out to eat, and especially the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She volunteered at St. Mary’s Grade School.

Surviving are her sister Mary Beth Culnan, 2 sons John (wife Reona) Daly of Carbondale, IL, Larry Daly of Taylorville, IL, a daughter Jennifer (husband Tony) Spain of Carlock, IL, her grandchildren: Chelsea (husband Patrick) Hickey, Emily, Chase, Rowan, and Corey Collins, Kellyn, Lucas, Connor, Sean and Paige Daly, 4 great-grandchildren Gina, Abby and Ben Hickey and Copeland Williams along with a niece and nephew.

Mrs. Daly was preceded in death by her husband, brother and parents.  

Visitation will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 25, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Taylorville with a Funeral Mass following at noon.  Fr. Piotr Kosk will officiate.  Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Pawnee.  

Memorials in loving memory of Mrs. Daly are suggested to: St. Mary’s Grade School – 422 S. Washington St. or St. Mary’s Catholic Church – 116 W. Adams St. - Taylorville, IL 62568.
