Mr. Keith E. Brookens, 90, of Kincaid, IL passed away peacefully at 11:05 P.M. Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Prairie Rose Health Care in Pana, IL.

He was born October 30, 1926 in Taylorville, IL the son of O.D. and Ruth (Shivers) Brookens.  He married Dorothy Hancock on November 26, 1948 in Owensboro, KY.

Keith was a graduate of Taylorville High School and served in the U.S. Navy.  He was Past-President and 15 year member of the Kincaid Elementary School Boardand Past Commander of the Kincaid American Legion Edwin Corpin Post #905.  He served as Scout Leader for Boy Scout Troop 76 for many years.  Keith enjoyed spending time with his family.  He retired in 1988 after being employed his whole career in coal mining with Freeman United Coal Company and spent many great retirement winters with Dorothy in Golf Shores, AL and Alamo, TX.  Keith and his wife Dorothy are long time members of Midland United Methodist Church in Kincaid, IL and were active there until ill health interceded.

Surviving are his wife Dorothy of Pana, IL; children Donald Brookens (and his companion Linda Bollenbach-Davis) of Anna, IL; Beverly Perrachione of Kirksville, MO; Steve (Wendy ) Brookens  of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren Buffy Brookens, Tyler (Arim) Perrachione, Kaitlin Mills, Courtney (Kevin) Rurick, Sara (Ben) Abney, Jeffrey (Rachel) Brookens and Hayden Baker, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Wilmer Brookens, and one sister Elva Cook.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid, IL.  Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Taylorville, IL.  Visitation for Mr. Keith E. Brookens will be held for one hour before the service Friday at Masterson’s.
