Mrs. Billie Rose Silkwood, 89, of Taylorville, IL, formerly of Kincaid, IL passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Life’s Journey Senior Living, Taylorville.

She was born in Du Quoin, IL July 24, 1927.  She was raised by her step-father and mother William G. and Sara G. (Kimmel) Sneddon.  Billie married Charles Raymond “Ray” Silkwood March 4, 1946 in Christopher, IL.  Mr. Silkwood preceded her in death December 18, 1994.

Mrs. Silkwood was a member of Midland United Methodist Church, Kincaid for more than 60 years, where she was very active as a Sunday School Teacher along with baking pies for all their church sales and other church activities.  Although she was born and raised in Southern Illinois, she has raised her family in Kincaid, IL since 1952.  Mrs. Silkwood was very active in her children’s education and believed in higher education enough, that she made sure all her children went through college and on to professional lives.  Billie and her late husband loved traveling extensively for several years and they spent a great many winters in South Florida.

Surviving are: 2 sons Larry (wife Marilyn) Silkwood of Champaign, IL., James (wife Julia) Silkwood of Jasper, IN., one daughter Linda (Husband Michael) Conrath of Kincaid, IL., 4 grandchildren Jennifer (Michael) Dittrich of Maplewood, MO., Nicole (Jacob) Argo of Rochester, IL., Michael (Ashley) Silkwood of Huntingburg, IN and Sarah (Layne) Edwards of Lake Forrest, CA., a step grandchild Jack B. Sullivan of Chicago, IL along with 4 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid, IL.  Pastor J. Steven Smith will officiate.  Burial will be at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville.  Visitation for Mrs. Silkwood will be held for one hour before her services at the funeral Home.
